Governments throughout the World are becoming
increasingly
aware of the danger of unnecessary exposure to x-ray. None more so than the New
Zealand Health Department who since 1966 have provided technical assistance to
Dr. John Nolan as he continues to perfect his Multiple X-ray Filtration System. Using known dose reduction qualities of Aluminium and other
metals, Dr. Nolan has been able to manufacture shaped ‘filters’ to shield
specific, less dense body areas which would otherwise be ‘at risk’ during
spinal x-ray exposure. By converting all known x-ray factors such as film and screen
speed, kVp and mAS, tube distance, grid ratio and patient density to scales or
‘POINTS’, it was a logical extension to devise a caliper, which incorporated
the X-ray Technique and filter requirement into its construction. By using this system, the radiographer eliminates guesswork
in exposure factors, avoids unnecessary retakes for quality films, and knows
that the patient is receiving the lowest possible dose concomitant with
adequately diagnostic x-rays. The system is used as a teaching aid in most major
Chiropractic Colleges, and its use has been recommended by such D.A.C.B.R.’s
as Russell Erhardt, Joe Howe, Terry Yochum, Vinton Albers, Lindsay Rowe and Gary
Guebert to name just a few. Filtration in X-ray could soon become mandatory. Why not use
the most complete system, one that has been Government tested? The choice is simple: |
